Friday was our first event for Because I am a Girl. The girls worked hard in preparing, so it all worked out in the end. We had participated in our school's equity open house. It was mainly an introduction sort of thing. We are still pretty new and not a lot of people at our school know about us. Interested students were able to pass by our booth to learn different facts about equal gender rights and the struggles women had to go through. We were able to explain what Because I am a Girl does and how we try to help. I am sure we opened some eyes.

Students were able to answer questions about women struggles and place comments.

The comments were the most popular. People were able to write comments describing themselves. Each comment would be finishing the sentence "Because I am a girl, I" for girls and "Because I am a boy, I" for the boys so no one was left out. We ended up with pretty interesting comments and views, some serious, while some funny and sort of random.

It was interesting to see the reactions of people at our booth and the comments left. At the end, people had left with informational notes, stickers, bookmarks, or their comments on our board. We were finally able to get note of our club and hopefully expand.

For all our members, we enjoyed this event. It was fun and educational.

Congrats on your first event!

It sounds like participating in the equity open house was a great way to raise awareness about gender issues and get more people interested in your club. Thanks for sharing an update about your activities!
