Canadian Coalition for Child Rights Meeting

Blog image posted by Corey
Back in August, we participated in a consultation about child rights and shared our experiences as being the 1st generation immigrant children. On November 17, Maneesa and I were invited to be youth panelists at one of the meetings of Canada's Coalition for Child Rights. We were asked to share our thoughts on the child rights report that was submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child which is a report that the UN acquires every 5 years. This was perfect for us because we both live in different communities and have different backgrounds and beliefs. So our perspectives were very different yet, they reflect on the different lives of immigrant and refugee children; which include various challenges that these children face. I was super anxious to talk about how the Canadian government can do better and what is lacking. This experience was amazing and the audience was extremely kind. This is the report if you are interested: http://rightsofchildren.ca/wp-content/uploads/CCRC-Report-to-UN-on-CRC.pdf

Well done Jenny and Maneesa!

Thank you for this post Jenny! Both you and Maneesa did a great job speaking honestly about your experiences. It's important to know your rights but a lot of us aren't aware of them.
