By: Cara Fair Trade is a partnership between producers and consumers (people who buy the products) that aims for greater equity in international trade. When you buy a product, Fair Trade is an assurance that the producer of the product is working and living in good conditions and is being paid fairly. It secures the human rights of the workers by making sure that they are not cheated by more business-oriented consumers. Fair Trade helps workers in developing countries (in mainly Africa, Asia and Latin America) to support themselves independently and to take control over their organization. It generally focuses on products from developing countries; most commonly handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit and flowers.
