Tuff Gong Town Cleaners

Virtual Village:
Tuff Gong started his own volunteer clean up crew because he was unhappy with the trash in the community. Little by little, the community saw how his work was benefiting them. Their incidence of disease went down, and their economy started to improve with a new market in town.

Kwale, Kenya

Here in Kwale, about 15 of us young men and women from a local secondary school got together to make some videos and photos of our community. Our community is a rural one. We live near to a national park where elephants roam along with other animals. We have lots of palm trees and grow plenty of fruits and vegetables to eat. To do this project, we worked for a few weeks together with a few teachers and community members, discussing what the good things are in the community, and what things we'd like to change in our lives. We discussed our traditions and also many of the new things that are coming to pass in our lives as young people. Much of what we discussed is shown here. We hope you'll take a look around and tell us what you think! Do you also experience some of the challenges that we face?
