Disability and Tradition

Virtual Village:
Here you can see 3 videos that explain the traditions that lead parents to expose newborn babies to the elements if they are born with any type of disability. We've also made a video that shows how everyone has a right to live, whether disabled or not.

Traditional Healer

Virtual Village:
The traditional healer provides the community with spiritual and health services. Here he performs a healing ceremony for an woman elder.

Kwale, Kenya

Here in Kwale, about 15 of us young men and women from a local secondary school got together to make some videos and photos of our community. Our community is a rural one. We live near to a national park where elephants roam along with other animals. We have lots of palm trees and grow plenty of fruits and vegetables to eat. To do this project, we worked for a few weeks together with a few teachers and community members, discussing what the good things are in the community, and what things we'd like to change in our lives. We discussed our traditions and also many of the new things that are coming to pass in our lives as young people. Much of what we discussed is shown here. We hope you'll take a look around and tell us what you think! Do you also experience some of the challenges that we face?
