The facts:

  • About 40% of people in Malawi don't have access to improved sanitation facilities, such as latrines and toilets.
  • 20% of people don't have access to improved drinking water.
  • More than 30% of children under five suffer from diarrhea and require medication.
  • Several cities in Malawi have high rates of cholera, a water-borne disease that is fatal if left untreated.
