Vigilance Communities Fight Trafficking

An estimated 10 to 15 thousand people are trafficked from Nepal to India each year - most are women and children for sexual exploitation. This short film features vigilance committees, set up by Plan, in action at the border check posts, looking for suspect trafficking victims. Since 2007, Plan has organized nearly 600 vigilance committees comprising women, community elders and police officers. In 2009 alone, over 300 women and children were rescued by these committees and taken to a shelter run by Plan's partner.
