The Village of Hope Challenge is a Canada-wide initiative to help youth ages 14 to 18 years old make a difference in the lives of children in developing countries. The Challenge is both learning and action focused, engaging youth with global issues.
Each month, classrooms around Canada will engage in different topics, including:
- Poverty
- Food security
- War and conflict
- HIV and AIDS
- Emergencies
- Child protection
- Water and sanitation
- Health
- Climate change
- Education.
In addition to participating in class discussions and activities, students will add to their Village of Hope by fundraising and building awareness in the school and community.
The Challenge: Build a Village of Hope
Each month, students will learn about a new global issue. Using their new found knowledge and awareness, they have the option to fundraise to buy Gifts of Hope designed to tackle the monthly issue. By purchasing these Gifts of Hope they will be helping to “build” a Village of Hope.
To receive the monthly packages and to get a copy of the village map poster and Gift of Hope printable cutouts, please fill out the simple sign-up form.
The suggested minimum price point for each Village of Hope item is $5. While this is below the cost of Plan’s Gift of Hope items, the money each class raises for items will be pooled to cover the real cost.
Each month, we ask that you submit a report of any funds raised which will be used for the online leader board. We also suggest appointing one student each month to post any photos, videos or blog entries to showcase your class activity. If you have any questions about starting the program, please contact us at youth@plancanada.ca.
